Academic Goals

OIT has a key role in supporting instruction and the student experience.

Educational Initiatives

We are part of UCI's COMPASS Student Success initiative, developing tools and reports and curating data with the goal of promoting UCI student academic success.

We continue, in consultation with faculty, to extend and refine the capabilities of the Canvas learning management system, adding support for academic dedicated program-spaces and additional third party service integrations

We partner with LARC, DUE, and the Alumni association to assess and deploy academic support tools (such as ScoreShare, tutorial technology, academic placement, Appointments, alumni engagement, and Cap & Gown).

OIT manages eTech funds, both for infrastructure projects such as power and wireless networking in student study spaces, and to support unit-managed projects such as A/V equipment in Steinhaus Hall teaching labs and MDEA, academic software licensing (Matlab and ChemDraw), and mini-grants for individual faculty projects.

Active Learning

We had a leading role in designing learning spaces in the new Anteater Learning Pavilion (ALP) building, and are designing upgrades to numerous classrooms (including SE 1010, SS220A/B, HH 178, and AIRB 1030).

Research Computing

OIT helped launch UCI's new Research CyberInfrastructure Center and the new Research Storage Pool (for high-capacity research data) and made improvements to our research software licensing distribution system.

OIT has continued to work with diverse campus stakeholders in ongoing configuration, development and implementation of the new Student Information System and Slate, meeting dozens of milestones.

OIT also manages infrastructure which directly supports the academic enterprise.  We extended the Cognos business intelligence system to include new features (Student Enrollment, OR Annual Report, FY Proposal and Award comparison) and provided training to campus Cognos users.
