Research and Careers

OIT support for faculty and research comprises three main areas.  The Research Cyberinfrastructure Center (RCIC) provides secure data storage, high-performance computational clusters, and programming support.  Kuali Research offers grant support, reporting, and a method for requesting general IT support and services for research grant proposals.  UC Recruit, AP Review, Faculty Hub, and Faculty Profiles assist in recruiting, reviewing and promoting faculty and tracking CVs.

Kuali Research

Two new features have been added to Kuali Research (KR). When faculty first submit a grant proposal, there is a checkbox indicating whether the research is likely to need IT services. KR informs the OIT research support team, who then reaches out to the researcher offering information about available services. The Research IT team has also expanded reporting capabilities in Kuali Research for proposals and awards.

Research Cyberinfrastructure Center (RCIC)

RCIC added a number of new services to its portfolio.

Campus Research Storage Pool (CRSP)

CRSP has now been fully deployed, with more than 1200 user accounts already created. CRSP storage can be accessed from a standard web browser, a site-licensed client for Windows/Mac desktops, sshfs for Linux, and as a directly-mounted file system on the HPC Cluster. Each researcher is allocated 1TB of highly-reliable, no-cost storage to utilize for research purposes. Additional space can be purchased.

Secure Research Environment

The Secure Research Environment provides a computing and storage environment that conforms with the new NIST/FISMA security standards for sponsored research and provides new options for future research needs.

Advancing Faculty Diversity

Data was supplied to support UCOP's Advancing Faculty Diversity project and other National Science Foundation research.

TIPPERS Project

OIT supported the TIPPERS project which uses anonymized wireless access data in support of various research efforts.

UC Recruit - AP Review

UC Recruit and AP Review received numerous security enhancements including verifying applicant email addresses and removing applicant usernames.

Faculty Hub

Faculty Hub is a new product to replace myData, commercial software that faculty used to prepare for the Review process. Chancellor & Provost IT successfully released the Faculty Hub on schedule in May 2018. This allowed Academic Personnel to proceed with their planned decommissioning of myData in June.
