Impact
Student Experience
UCI provides a rich learning environment, in partnership with OIT. The eTech initiative invests in IT infrastructure requested by students. The Canvas learning environment provides a range of tools to enhance the classroom experience. Our Student Services teams collaborate with many units that directly support students, including the Division of Undergraduate Education, the Learning and Academic Resource Center, Financial Aid, Campuswide Honors, and The Division of Teaching Excellence and Innovation.
Canvas
The transition from EEE Legacy to Canvas continues, including extended technical support for Canvas, and integration of Canvas data with the COMPASS student success initiative.
EEE+ GrandCentral, the portal to Canvas for students and faculty, was migrated to the cloud via Amazon Web Services for improved resilience and performance.
Commencement
In partnership with the Office of the Vice Chancellor Student Affairs, OIT developed and supports the Commencement Ticketing application, a web servlet that allows students who have the approval to graduate to reserve a spot for themselves and guests at one of UC Irvine's commencement ceremonies.
Dream Center
In partnership with UCI Student Life and Leadership, OIT rolled out the UCI Dream Center website.
Streamlining Student Enrollment
In partnership with the Learning & Academic Resource Center (LARC), OIT launched the new LARC Enrollment system, featuring a streamlined student enrollment experience.
Mobile Apps
In recognition of the increasing use of cell phones by students, OIT has collected a list of mobile apps available at UCI.
eTech
The Spring 2018 eTech Survey ran from May 15, 2018, to June 15, 2018. We sought to learn from students the devices they use, the usability of the campus wireless (WiFi) network, the availability of power, the importance of technology in the classroom, and the technological direction instruction at UCI should go. eTech continues to fund extensions of the WiFi network, power outlets, and small school-directed instructional technology projects.
Other Enhancements
Other projects to enhance the UCI student experience include improvements to the parking permit system, upgrades to computer labs, and support for the eSports center.
